What is there to do in PV?

Activities:

Puerto Vallarta offers championship golf, scuba diving, snorkeling, hot air ballooning, mountain biking, tennis tournaments and more…. Day trips range from Bandaras Bay cruises, dolphin and whale watching (you can even swim and play with a bottlenose dolphin)! Other interesting day trips are a flight to a mountain silver mining village or a cruise to the island preserve where there are many endangered species. Buses run regularly up and down the coast to many different beach communities.
People watching on Los Muertos Beach or taking a walking tour (or one of the weekly Art Walks), pursuing the flea markets or snacking at the street vendor’s carts are all worth considering. I recommend visiting Puerto Vallarta’s official tourism site www.puertovallarta.net. I also recommend these commercial sites: www.go2vallarta.com, www.vallartaonline.com, and www.virtualvallarta.com.
“Off the beaten trail" tidbits I've discovered are:
... beaches at Boca de Tomatlan, Mismaloya or Salulita. All day trips to these local attractions are worth the drive.
We're about a 20-minute drive time from Mismaloya, Salulita, 45 minutes, and 30 minutes to the Airport.

How are the restaurants?

Dining:
Old Town dinners are reasonably priced and the wonderful atmosphere is free. Try the chalkboard catch of the day at La Palapa, the beef filet at Felipe’s, or the lobster tail special at Daiquiri Dick’s. The Red Cabbage and Los Arbolitos are also worth a visit. In Mismaloya John Huston’s restaurant has a Gran Partilla de Mariscos (a seafood parade) that is served to couples…complete with one of the finest views in the bay. For the adventurous, try the street vendors for an authentic Mexican meal.
"Favorite Local Tips.” Dining at the ‘Red Cabbage’ and ‘Los Arbolitos’ restaurants, exploring the flea market, checking email at internet cafes, strolling the Malecon (sea front walk), people-watching, etc. There are a variety of restaurants. Purified water and ice are plentiful. Besides fabulous seafood and Mexican restaurants you can choose from Brazilian, Vegetarian, and many more.

What is the "Siesta"

The siesta is from 2 to 4PM and many businesses (except bars and restaurants) are closed. Some of these businesses will stay open after siesta until 8PM or 9PM. Vendors on the street sell gift items, tamales, roasted corn or bags of fruit.

English language newspapers are readily available and they list the week’s tours, festivals, art events and news. There is very little crime in PV.
